Since his arrival on the Montreal jazz scene in the late 80’s, Frédéric Alarie continues to push the limits of his artistry and upright bass playing. He is a fluid and sensitive accompanist who, when the need arises, can become quite an agile and breathtaking soloist. In his latest artistic project, including Jacques Kuba Séguin on trumpet, he presents a cinematic sound scape where virtuosity and minimalism peacefully coexist in a lush and sometimes frightening new world. Armed with his custom made Lamario 5 string double bass and a few electronic devices, Mr. Alarie is boldly exploring new territory where he transcends jazz and the bass itself.
Amongst the international jazz community, he has had the pleasure to perform with many masterful musicians including Joe Lovano, John Abercrombie, George Benson, Michel Legrand, Sheila Jordan, Tiger Okoshi, Bill Drew, Judi Silvano and Bob Moses.
